Abstract

Background: Elongated styloid process can be identified through panoramic radiographic examination. Research on the prevalence of elongated styloid process is still limited, while understanding the relationship between patient complaints and elongated styloid process is needed to make an accurate diagnosis. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of elongated styloid process on panoramic radiographs at RSKGM of South Sumatera Province. Methods: This type of research was an observational descriptive with a total sample of 386 panoramic radiographs taken during the period of August 2023-March 2025 at RSKGM of South Sumatera Province. Elongated styloid process was categorized based on gender, age group, and location distribution. Data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: A total of 104 cases of elongated styloid process were found among the 386 panoramic radiographs. The elongated styloid process was most commonly found in females (84,6%), the most common age group was 26-45 years (48,1%), and the most common location distribution was bilateral (51%). Conclusion: The prevalence of elongated styloid process in panoramic radiographs at the RSKGM of South Sumatera Province in 2023-2025 was 26,9%.
