Abstract

The function is as a fulcrum axle or wheel load wheel holder and successor rev the engine to the wheels. With these functions axle must be made of a material which has a high hardness, toughness, and resistance to shock loads that hard. Based on the description of the research needed to make a stronger axle to a very large load by means of heat treatment process. This study was conducted with the heat treatment process is quenching process, which uses water cooling media and ultracold followed by cooling using liquid nitrogen. The results of these tests show that the changes in the microstructure of the quenching process is carried ont and contimted cooling ultracold form carbide-ferrite structure which has a very high hardness and tough. Untreated specimens have a hardness of 26.7 HRc. Then after quenching hardness increased by 55.6 HRc. The highest hardness of the specimen after cooling process ultracold of 62.4 HRc. For the results of the impact test specimens without treatment had an average value of 13.289 J impact energy while the specimen after quenching process decreased the average value of 1,893 J impact energy into, but after specimen cooling ultracold increased impact energy of 6.64 J.
