Abstract

in high temperature. Visual constitution ofpipe has heen operate in long time, i t will cause broke pipe. The pipe cannol be changed after allernater pipe is available. Because of that, the pipe is still operate for unsur e time. Based on that si tua t ion, furnace pipe operat ion shoul be used t o prevenl accident. Feasibilily study operalional is work by fitness for Services method of API 579. The purpose of this research lo get actual data, is it still proper to be operated or should be changed. Based one microstructure pipe condition from laboratorium result, i t occurs one of damaging part. That is showed the corrosion and grafit on outer surface. Which is cause d by oper aling temperature. The mechanic characteristic furnace pipe i s still in c r i teria. Ferritic Steel of Standard specifwation namely A335 P 5, with the minimum of pipe pulled power is 415 Mpa and the minimum of pipe crushed power is 205 Mpa. Value of actual power is showed by hardness value. That’s 128 VHN or 409 Mpa. The thickness of pipe has already changed, decreased i n size about 6.16 mm. based on result of this research, we can conclude that furnace pipe cannot b e operated. It is showed by thickness ratio calculation and thickness parameter is already fitness for Services 579 Standard based on local metal loss has sowed that damaged cannot be accepted. From hardness test result, the value of pipe actual power is under minimum material Standard. To prevent from accident, furnace pipe A335 P5 should be exchanged with new one.
