Abstract

The ethanol plant with a production capacity of 270.000 tons/year is planned to be established in 2023 on Jalan Krakatau Steel Industrial Estate, Cilegon City, Banten which is estimated to have an area of 9,2 Ha. This ethanol manufacturing process refers to US Patent 9,272,970 B2, where the process method used is the hydrogenation of acetic acid in the first reactor as well as the hydrogenation of ethyl acetate byproducts obtained from the first reaction to ethanol in the second reactor. The raw materials for making ethanol are acetic acid and hydrogen. The first reactor is a type of fixed bed reactor operating at temperature of 270°C and pressure of 20 atm with a Pt-Sn / Al2O3 catalyst and the second reactor is also a fixed bed reactor operating at 250°C and 40 atm with Cu-Zn/SiO2 catalyst. This plant will be established by adopting Perseroan Terbatas (PT) with the Line and Staff organization system, which is led by a Managing Director with a total of 190 employees. Based on the results of economic analysis, the ethanol plant is feasible to be established because it has fulfilled various economic parameter requirements, which are as follows: • Total Capital Investment (TCI) = US$ 44.371.041,59 • Total Production Cost (TPC) = US$ 328.947.051,56 • Selling Price per year (SP) = US$ 378.000.000,00 • Annual Cash Flow = US$ 37.769.163,93 • Pay Out Time = 1,16 tahun • Rate of Return = 77,3862% • Break Even Point = 36,3277% • Service Life = 11 tahun Keywords: Ethanol, Hydrogenation, Fixed Bed Reactor, Economic Analysis
