Abstract

At every time the machining process takes place it will produce vibrations arising from various trigger sources that cannot be controlled freely, in other cases large vibrations in the machining process produce deflection, the effect of the deflection affects surface roughness. One of the machining processes that are widely used to manufacture a component is the freis (milling) process. Based on this, a study was conducted on the analysis of vibration and surface roughness of thin-walled and non-thin-walled workpieces in the side milling process. The study aims to analyze the comparison of vibration values ​​and surface roughness values ​​between thin-walled workpieces and non-thin-walled down milling methods. The study was conducted using three machining parameters, namely cutting speed (Vc), feed motion per tooth (fz), and axial depth (ax), with 32 times the test. The sensor used is MEMS digital accelerometer ADXL-345 based on Arduino UNO in the MATLAB program for the results of vibration signal analysis in the form of time and acceleration charts. In the test results obtained the percentage of vibration values ​​with variations in the cutting speed of thin-walled workpieces by 35.5%, while on non-thin-walled workpieces by 16%. In the variation of per-gear feed motion (fz) the value of the percentage of thin-walled workpieces is 30%, whereas for non-thin-walled workpieces is 15.5%. Furthermore, the variation (ax) value of the percentage of thin-walled workpieces is 16%, while non-thin-walled is 5.5%. For the result of surface roughness percentage the cutting speed variation of thin-walled workpieces is 46%, whereas for non-thin-walled workpieces is 45%. In the variation of gear movements, thin-walled workpieces get a percentage of 30%, while in non-thin-walled workpieces it is 22.5%. In the depth variation of eating thin-walled workpieces get a percentage of 30%, while in non-thin-walled workpieces by 25.5%.
