Abstract
Tube as a main component of heat exchanger which is being used has a circular cross section, but it is possible to apply elliptical cross section. The use of a wide variety of tube shapes are intended in order to get the smallest value of the form drag coefficient so the pressure drop which is resulted as low as possible. Aspect ratio 0.8 of elliptical pipe, modificated from Wavin A W pipe 4 inch, outter diameter 114 mm, is used to researches of one elliptical pipe which means the distance between two pipes is infmity and two elliptical pipes which are given distances ffom each other specifically 1 cm, 3 cm, 6 cm and 12 cm. Flows past them in test section of Subsonic Wind Tunnel 40 are laminar flow. Research was conducted in order to get the value of pressure drop (AP) which can be applied in equation to calculate pressure coefficient (Cp), velocity (U) and the form drag coefficient (Cdp) surrounding the pipe. The results of the overall shows that the further the distance between two elliptical pipes the value of the pressure coefficient (Cp) becomes greater, but the speed (U) and form drag coefficient (Cdp) are getting smaller. Equations are obtained for form drag coefficient (CDp) is y = -0.008 x + 0.871. Keywords : pressure coefficient, velocity and form drag coefficient
