Abstract

Composite material is a new material consisting of two or more materials, in which the properties of each material are dijferent from each other, bolh physical properties and Chemical properties are kept separate al the end of composite materials. This research uses glass fiber as filler and polyester resin as matrix. The type of fiber that used is woven fiber with fiber volume fraction that used was 20%. This research aims is to analyze the physical properties and mechanical properties of polyester resin composites with two dijferent fiber orientations, namely 450 and 90°. The process of making composites used in this research is the method of vacuum bagging. This method is used to get the value of testing is better with a more efficient use of resin. Efficiency resin obtained by performing a vacuum in the mold area that vacummed so that excess resin will come out of the mold. Tests were conducted on specimens are tensile testing and impact testing, as well as do the macro image of the specimen after the test. ASTM D-638-03 is used as the Standard for tensile testing and ASTM D 6110 for impact testing. The results of tensile test conducted on specimens demonstrate the value of mean stress and strain largest average given by the specimen with fiber orientation 90°, while testing the impact indicates the value of the energy impact of the largest and prices impact the average terbesaar given by the specimen with fiber orientation 45°. Key Words : fiber glass, woven fiber, vacuum bagging, tensile test, impact test, macro photos
