Abstract
In this globalization era, the production equipment are very important to achieve a plant especially petrochemicals plant that produces urea either subsidized or non-subsidized like fertilizier plant at PT. Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang. Ammonia plant PUSRI-III has two units heat excahnger in the form of the cooler whose function is to lubricating the bearings in the shaft between the compressor and turbine Synthesis Gas. However, the performance both of units Cooler decreased because the period of operation that has long so there should be adding one additional Cooler unit. To reduce production costs, the design of heat exchanger is more effective than buy a heat exchanger that is already done. A heat exchanger shell and tube type is the type of heat exchanger which is widely used in the plant. The design using LMTD approach or logarithmic temperature different approach. The design results are a heat exchanger dimension, the overall heat transfer coefificient and pressure drop that occurs either in the shell or on the tube and the important fouling factor influence in heat exchanger design quality.
