Abstract
Livelihood assets owned by the community play an important role in supporting production optimization and income generation from livelihood activities, including for independent smallholders who depend on oil palm cultivation as their main source of income. In STL Ulu Sub-district, despite limited land, independent oil palm farmers are still able to produce significant production. The objectives of this study are to (1) analyze the livelihood assets that are available and can be utilized by independent oil palm farmers, (2) analyze the condition of the feasibility level of livelihood assets and at what level the livelihood assets used by independent oil palm farmers, (3) analyze the income of independent oil palm farmers, and (4) analyze the percentage of expenditure for food and non-food consumption in independent oil palm farmer households. Sample determination using Simple Random Sampling as many as 100 independent smallholders. The analytical methods used were descriptive analysis, scoring analysis to determine the feasibility level of livelihood assets and Rapid Assessment Technique for Sustainable Livelihood Asset (RAP-SLA) to determine the sustainability level of livelihood assets, income analysis and proportion of expenditure. The results show (1) livelihood assets used by independent smallholders with the highest dominance in order are physical assets, financial assets, natural assets, social assets, and human assets; (2) Five livelihood assets are included in the category of quite feasible and at a sufficient level; (3) household income obtained by independent smallholders amounted to Rp13,050,811/month; (4) The proportion of expenditure for food consumption amounted to 31.56 percent, while the proportion of expenditure for non-food consumption amounted to 68.44 percent.
