Abstract

The high intensity of coal barge transportation activity on the Lilin River has the potential to provide benefits as well as disadvantages for human life and the environment. However, this activity affects changes in riverbed elevation and sediment distribution. This study aims to determine the pattern of sediment distribution and elevation changes using HEC-RAS modeling based on spatial and temporal data on the Lilin River, Musi Banyuasin Regency. Primary data include cross-sectional geometry from DEM and GPS, sediment samples, and daily water discharge. Modeling uses the Bank Stability and Toe Erosion Model (BSTEM) with Transport Function Laursen (Copeland), Sorting Method Copeland (Ex7), and Fall Velocity Method Rubey. Analysis of dominant flow discharge shows maximum sediment accumulation at Station 1211,20 (+0,727 m) and the deepest erosion at Station 2912,50 (-0,607 m). Temporal analysis records 70% elevation transformation. There was a strong and significant correlation between barge frequency and elevation change, where every additional 10 barges/day caused an additional 0,12 m of degradation. Flow velocities ranged from 1,2– 3,6 m/s with bed shear stresses of 2,4–7,7 Pa.
