Abstract
This research aims to analyze the social-economic factors, income, and welfare level of farmers in converting rubber land to oil palm land. The research was conducted in Perambahan Village and Perambahan Baru Village, Banyuasin I District, Banyuasin Regency. Land conversion is a change in the function of some or all of the land area from its original function (as planned) to another function. The research method used is a survey method, and the sampling method used is probability sampling. From Perambahan Village, there are 152 oil palm farmers and 53 rubber farmers, while from Perambahan Baru Village, there are 125 oil palm farmers and 75 rubber farmers. The sample size for each village was determined to be 30 oil palm farmers and 10 rubber farmers for Perambahan Village, and 25 oil palm farmers and 15 rubber farmers for Perambahan Baru Village. The data used in this research are primary and secondary data, which were analyzed using descriptive tabulation and binary logistic regression analysis. The research results show that the results of the Binary Logistic Regression test, farm income, production costs, and number of dependents jointly affect the opportunity for farmers to convert rubber land to oil palm land. Meanwhile, the age of the farmer and farming experience do not affect the opportunity for farmers to convert rubber land to oil palm land. Based on the income and financial feasibility analysis, it can be concluded that the oil palm farming business has a much higher profit level compared to rubber farming. The analysis results show that the welfare level of farmers, measured based on the standard of Decent Living Needs (KHL), found that 52% of rubber farmer households fall into the prosperous category. Meanwhile, 78% of oil palm farmer households fall into the prosperous category.
