Abstract
Surface roughness is an absolute must in the machining process, especially lathes. The lathe is a machine that is widely used for the machining process. Roughness of a workpiece machining process result is influenced by cutting parameters. This research used a lathe BD-1336T with aluminum 6061 workpieces. Cutting speed (Vc) 34.60 m/min value is kept constant. Variations feed rate (Vf) 36 mm/min; 56 mm/min; and 84 mm/min, variations in the depth of cut (a) 0.7 mm; 1 mm; and 1.3 mm, the variation in the ratio mixture coolant of cutting fluid and water (5% : 95%) ; (i0% : 90%) ; (15% : 85%). The result showed the lowest roughness value on cutting conditions with variation of feeding 1.66 pm is in feed rate 36 mm/min, where as the number greatest surface roughness is 3.07 pm is in feed rate 84 mm/min. In variations of the depth of cut is the smallest surface roughness value pm 2.01 namely the depth of cut 0.7 mm, while the figure is the largest surface roughness is 2.77 pm at 1.3 mm depth of cut. In the ratio mixture coolant variation value is the smallest surface roughness 2.25 pm is at the ratio mixture coolant of cutting fluid and water 15% : 85%, while the value of the largest surface roughness is 2.65 pm is at the ratio mixture coolant of cutting fluid and water 5% : 95%. Research it concludes that greatly affects the surface roughness is feed rate parameters so as to get smooth surfaces roughness results suggested to use a small feed rate.
