Abstract

This study addresses the issue of speech acts found in the Instagram accounts of beauty pageant fans. The research has both academic and practical objectives. The academic objective is to fulfill the requirements for completing a bachelor's degree. The practical objectives are: (1) to describe the verbal characteristics of assertive, directive, commissive, and expressive speech acts from a grammatical and sociolinguistic perspective, and (2) to implement the findings of this speech act study into school learning. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a communication ethnography approach. Data were collected using documentation and note-taking techniques. The data consists of comments from the "pageant lovers" community, and the data source is the comment section of an Instagram post on the @dpidamu account from March 8, 2024, regarding the final results of Puteri Indonesia 2024. The data analysis process involved four stages: (1) identification, (2) classification, (3) analysis, and (4) interpretation. The results show a total of 225 speech acts, categorized based on Searle's classification: (1) assertive with 28 data, (2) directive with 32 data, (3) commissive with 13 data, and (4) expressive with 152 data. The most frequently found speech act is the expressive one, with 152 data, while the least frequent is the commissive, with 13 data. The study reveals that expressive speech acts have the most complex characteristics from both grammatical and sociolinguistic standpoints. The implication for Indonesian language learning is the study of drama texts. The material on drama texts is included in the advanced Indonesian Language and Literature for Senior High School, 11th grade, under the Merdeka Curriculum, Phase F, with the theme "Developing Drama Appreciation on Education." The applied learning outcomes are the "reading and viewing" element, through which students are asked to analyze dialogue in drama texts, and the "speaking and presenting" element, through which students can present their analysis of the drama text dialogue in front of the class and receive feedback from other students. The implication of this research is in the form of a teaching module for analyzing dialogue in drama texts and student worksheets (LKPD). Keywords: Speech acts, fan comments, beauty pageant.
