Abstract

ABSTRACT Gastritis is one of the most common digestive disorders in the community. This condition can be influenced by various factors, such as irregular eating patterns, stress levels, and unhealthy lifestyles. This study aimed to determine the relationship between eating patterns and stress with the incidence of gastritis at Tebing Gerinting Public Health Center. This research used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected through interviews using questionnaires and direct observation. The total sample consisted of 44 respondents selected using accidental sampling techniques. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test and Fisher's exact test. The statistical analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between eating patterns and the incidence of gastritis (p= 0,113), nor between stress and the incidence of gastritis (p= 0,603). This study concludes that efforts to prevent gastritis should not be solely focused on eating patterns and stress management, but also consider other contributing factors such as smoking behavior, caffeine consumption, the use of certain medications, and the application of adaptive stress coping strategies. Therefore, the role of health promotion officers and nutritionists is essential in providing education and assistance through counseling activities so that the community can implement healthy eating patterns and effective stress management.
