Abstract

At the tuming process, most of the energy needed for the formation of rage is converted into heat, the temperature in the cutting zone is very high. Heat is generated during the machining process depends mainly on the type of cutting tool, workpiece material, and process parameters such as cutting speed, depth of cut and motion eat. High temperatures in the cutting process has a critical influence on tool life and surface integrity of the workpiece. Thus it is necessary for finite element analysis on the rise in temperature in the cutting zone in lathe machining processes. From the simulations carried out found that rising temperatures in the cutting zone very quickly occurs in the primary zone than the secondary section zone. This is evidenced by the rapid rise in the time primary zone reaches a temperature of 40.1oC in a time of 21.4 seconds. While in the secondary zone only reaches a temperature of 35.93°C in a time of 34.2 seconds. Keywords: Finite Element Analysis, Temperature Raise, Cutting Zone
