Abstract

This study aims to empirically test the effect of environmental, social, governance (ESG) on corporate profitability. Non-financial companies in ASEAN-5 countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines) in 2019-2023. And to test the role of Debt to Equity ratio and total assets as control variables. The dependent variable in this study is corporate profitability as measured by Return On Asset (ROA). While the independent variable is ESG disclosure. Leverage as measured by Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) and (LN) total assets act as control variables. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling, resulting in a total of 1170 observations. Data were obtained from Refinitive Workspace and analyzed using panel data regression using STATA 17 software. The results showed that Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) has a significant positive effect on corporate profitability. Meanwhile, Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) has a significant positive influence on company profitability (ROA) and (LN) total assets do not have a significant influence on company profitability (ROA).
