Abstract

Carbon is one of the many important elements in the cycle of life on earth. Research estimating soil carbon reserves in the oil palm agro-ecosystem in the wetlands aims to estimate the amount of soil carbon stocks contained in the oil palm agro-ecosystem in tidal swamp land. This study was conducted in August 2015 to November 2015. The methodology used in this study is the observation method is the method of observation that direct observation in the field with detail or intensive survey approach where 1 Ha represents one soil sample. The data that will be obtained will be displayed in the graph diagram. The parameters were observed to obtain carbon stocks include the contents of soil density, the percentage of C-organic land, land area and the depth of the soil layer is taken for samples. The results showed that the type of horizon above affect the results of estimation of the number of carbon stocks. Type the upper soil horizon or top soil will affect the study parameters such as density and the percentage content of soil organic C have a direct impact on the results of soil carbon reserves estimation. The soil in the oil palm plantation blocks 8 years old have the highest amount of carbon reserves in the amount of 3.18 ton C ha-1, while the lowest result in the land owned by oil palm plantation blocks 3 years old with suspected carbon reserves by 2.13 tonnes C ha-1. Along with the increasing age of the plant soil carbon reserves of this is due to the higher oil crops can restore the content of Corganic although not as big as the ability restore natural forests.
