Abstract
ABSTRACT Culex mosquitues known vector of seferal dangerous disases sach filariasis and encephalitis, especially in tropical regions like Indonesia. The widespread use of chemical larvicides to control mosquito larvae has led to increasing resistance and negatife enviromental impact, inclading harms non-target organismes. Therefore, natural larvicides that are environmentally friendly are urgently needed. Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) is known to contain active compounds sach citronelal, citronalol, and geraniols, whoes haves potentialis botanical inseticidest. That studied aimed evaluate the efectifenes of lemonras leaft extracs is biolarvicide again Culex sp. third instar larvae. The extraction was caried outs use macerations with 96% ethanolis, resulting in a yield of 33.724%. The bioassay involved five treatment concentrations (0.6%, 0.8%, 1%, 1.2%, and 1.4%) along with negative and positive controls. Observed parameters included behavioral changes, morphological alterations, and larval mortality afters 24 and 48 hourse exposured. The results showed that lemongrass extract induced behavioral changes such as reduced motility, feeding inhibition, and partial paralysis. Morphological damages were also observed, including disruption of the siphon and abdominal structures. Larval mortality increased with higher extract concentrations. The LC₅₀ value at 24 hours was 0.0099 and decreased to 0.0055 at 48 hours, indicating high larvicidal potency. Although ANOVA analisis showeds no statisticaly significants diferencest (p > 0.05), descriptive data indicated a clear trend of increasing mortality. Thus, lemongrass leaf extract demonstrates strong potential as an effective and eco-friendly botanical larvicide. Keywords: Lemongrass extract, Biolarvicide, Culex larvae ABSTRAK Nyamuk Culex sp. merupakan sumber utama penyakit seperti filariasis dan ensefalitis, terutama di tempat-tempat tropis seperti Indonesia. Karena larvasida kimia telah menyebabkan masalah lingkungan dan resistensi, kita memerlukan pilihan yang lebih aman dan alami untuk membunuh larva. Serai (Cymbopogon citratus) memiliki zat yang dapat bekerja sebagai insektisida alami. Penelitian ini menguji seberapa baik ekstrak daun serai dapat membunuh larva Culex sp. instar III. Kami mengekstrak daun serai menggunakan metode yang disebut maserasi dengan etanol 96%, yang memberi kami hasil sebesar 33,724%. Kami menguji lima konsentrasi ekstrak yang berbeda, bersama dengan dua kelompok kontrol, dan mengamati perubahan pada cara larva bertindak, tampak, dan apakah mereka mati. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak serai mengubah cara larva bertindak dan tampak, dan lebih banyak larva mati saat konsentrasi ekstrak meningkat. Nilai LC₅₀ ekstrak menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak tersebut sangat beracun bagi larva Culex sp. Kata kunci: Ekstrak serai, Biolarvasida, Larva Culex
