Abstract

Fear of Missing Out is the anxiety or feeling of worry when you miss out on a moment or experience that someone else feels. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-control and fear of missing out (FoMO) in young adults who use TikTok. The hypothesis of this study is that there is a relationship between the variables of self-control and fear of missing out. The research employed a quantitative method with a purposive sampling technique and involved 276 participants aged 18–25 years. The instrument used was the fear of missing out scale based on the dimensions developed by Song et al. (2017). Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho correlation technique. The results indicated a significant negative correlation between self-control and fear of missing out (r = –0.214; p < 0.05). This finding suggests that the higher an individual's level of self-control, the lower their tendency to experience FoMO. Therefore, the hypothesis of this study is accepted.
