Abstract

Anxiety levels significantly impact to the health of pregnant women and their fetuses, indirectly impacting the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). Anxiety rates in Sumatra are estimated at 52.3%. Therefore, appropriate interventions, such as pre-natal group counseling, are needed as a management strategy to address anxiety in pregnant women. This study aims to determine the effect of pre-natal group counseling on pregnant women’sanxiety levels. The study design used a quasi- experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 44 pregnant women in their third trimester, selected through purposive sampling. The instrument used the HARS questionnaire, which included questions related to anxiety levels. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with an α value of 0.05 to determine differences in anxiety levels before and after the intervention. The bivariate analysis obtained a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant difference in anxiety levels among pregnant women after the intervention. Prenatal group counseling has been shown to be effective in reducing anxiety levels in pregnant women. This intervention can be used as a strategy in antenatal care to support maternal psychological health during pregnancy and leading up to delivery.
