Abstract
HIV remains a serious public health issue that requires careful management. Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) is a series of HIV tests accompanied by counseling, which plays a crucial role in determining an individual’s health status, particularly among key populations such as female sex workers, injecting drug users, transgender individuals, and men who have sex with men (MSM). This study aims to identify the factors influencing the utilization of VCT services among key populations in Palembang City. This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design. The sample consisted of 88 respondents from the key population groups selected using a purposive sampling method. The majority of respondents were aged ≤ 35 years, unmarried, highly educated, knowledgeable about HIV/AIDS, employed, living at a distance of more than 3 km from the public health center, and having perceptions of vulnerability and benefits regarding VCT services. Factors significantly associated with the utilization of VCT services were distance (p = 0.022), knowledge (p = 0.001), and perceived susceptibility (p = 0.020). Meanwhile, age (p = 0.491), marital status (p = 0.070), employment status (p = 0.116), education (p = 1.000), and perceived benefits (p = 1.000) did not have a significant association with the utilization of VCT services among key populations in Palembang City. The majority of respondents demonstrated a high level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS, however, misconceptions regarding HIV/AIDS prevention and the stages of infection still persist. Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended to strengthen HIV services through the provision of confidential HIV teleconsultation integrated into the national health application, as well as the targeted dissemination of HIV/AIDS-specific information. These efforts are expected to improve public knowledge and access to HIV services, and to expand the coverage of early HIV detection in Indonesia.
