Abstract

This study aims to develop an instructional medium in the form of an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted animated video on the topic of cubes and rectangular prisms for second-grade elementary school students. The research employed a Design Research approach of the Development Studies type, using the ADDIE development model. Data were collected through expert validation, teacher and student questionnaires, and learning achievement tests. A preliminary survey involving 100 teachers and 150 students in the Sungai Lilin and Babat Supat districts indicated the need for engaging visual media that align with students’ audiovisual learning styles. Validation results from subject matter, media, and language experts produced an average score of 92.3%, categorized as very valid. The practicality test involving teachers and students yielded a score of 90.11%, categorized as very practical. Furthermore, the effectiveness test in the field trial demonstrated a significant improvement in students’ conceptual understanding, with the experimental class achieving an average posttest score of 84.00 compared to 57.60 in the control class. The Mann-Whitney U Test showed U = 63.500 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), confirming that H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. These findings highlight that the AI-assisted animated video is a valid, practical, and effective medium for enhancing second-grade students’ understanding of cubes and rectangular prisms.
