Abstract

Bomb City is an American crime drama film that highlights real issues surrounding the conflict between the punk community and high school athletes in Amarillo, Texas, in 1997. The film depicts how stereotypes, violence, and discrimination affect the punk community, particularly in the context of injustice in law enforcement. This study focuses on the representation of legal injustice experienced by the punk group as portrayed in Bomb City. The data for this research were obtained through observation, documentation, and literature study, and were then analyzed qualitatively using John Fiske’s semiotics theory. The researcher employed Fiske’s framework The Codes of Television, which includes three levels of codes: reality, representation, and ideology. The findings show that the film strongly illustrates the discrimination of law enforcement and society against the punk community through visual symbols, narrative, dialogue, and biased social portrayals. These findings indicate the existence of social and legal inequality as reflected in the media. This research is expected to provide further understanding of how media represents injustice toward marginalized groups and the importance of objectivity in law enforcement.
