Abstract

The development of social media has created new spaces for social interaction and the formation of interest-based virtual communities, including in the field of photography. One active community in this area is the Digicam Indonesia group on Facebook. This study aims to analyze the influence of Facebook as a social media platform and cyber community on the photography interest of its members. The research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method involving 126 respondents. The analysis model used is Partial Least Square–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with the support of SmartPLS 4.0 software. The results indicate that Facebook has a significant and positive effect on photography interest, with a path coefficient of 0.680, a p-value of 0.034 (<0.05), and a t-statistic of 2.116. Meanwhile, the cyber community also has a significant influence, with a path coefficient of 0.197, a p-value of 0.000, and a t-statistic of 9.543. Simultaneously, both independent variables contribute to photography interest with an R-square value of 0.689, meaning that 68.9% of the variation in photography interest can be explained by these two variables. These findings emphasize that Facebook and cyber communities play an important role in fostering interest and learning in photography through online platforms. This study is expected to serve as a reference for the development of interest-based virtual communities and the educational use of social media.
