Abstract

The Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Museum is one of the historical buildings in Palembang that holds significant value for the city while also serving as a cultural tourism attraction. However, its existence faces challenges in the form of limited spatial capacity (tangible) and a lack of visitor interest (intangible). This design aims to enhance the functionality of the museum without diminishing its historical value. The proposed concept is a design with contrasting compatibility to the old building, thereby creating a visual dialogue between the old and the new. The outcome of this design is expected not only to address the museum’s functional limitations but also to strengthen the identity of the area as a cultural hub relevant to the needs of contemporary visitors.
