Abstract
A pre-experimental study was carried out to determine students? mastery of concepts on biology education on the topic of photosynthesis and respiration through problem-based learning. The study involved a number of biology education students of sixth semester in the South Sumatera ?LPTK? as research subjects (n = 27). This study used the One-group pretest-posttest design. Instruments used in the study were multiple-choice written test (50 questions), and closed questionnaire with Likert scale reference. Data were analyzed with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test followed by paired t test (Paired-Sample t Test). The results showed that there was a significant increase in the mastery of concepts, with a value of significance p = 0.000 at \ensuremathα = 0.025. Increasing mastery of the concept of photosynthesis and respiration in biology education students included in the medium category, with normalized gain value (n-gain) = 0.35. Based on the results of this study indicate that problem-based learning can enhance the mastery of concepts on the topic of photosynthesis and respiration. In addition, problem-based learning students also develop a positive attitude towards learning biology teacher candidates photosynthesis and respiration.
