Abstract

Football is the most popular sport in Indonesia, yet the national quality and achievements remain behind due to weak youth development. This condition is also evident in North Sumatra, particularly in Medan, which lacks proper training facilities despite being home to the historic PSMS Medan club. To address these issues, a modern and professional football academy and training centre is required to support structured youth development from an early age. This research designs a football academy and training centre for PSMS Medan through the integration of smart building technology and symbolic architectural concepts representing the club’s history, identity, and values. The symbolic approach is expressed through architectural elements inspired by the “Ayam Kinantan” nickname, the club’s glorious history, and its fighting spirit as the identity of Medan City. The facilities are equipped with sensor-based and data-analytic technologies to enhance training effectiveness and player monitoring. The result is a modern architectural design that balances academic, physical, and symbolic aspects, expected to nurture young talents and contribute to the advancement of Indonesian football at both national and international levels.
