Abstract
This study aims to determine the reasons and goals of young employees job-hopping and the meanings they attach to the experience. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with Alfred Schutz's phenomenological strategy. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with employees of the Stickearn startup who have a history of job-hopping, as well as supporting documentation and literature review. The results indicate two main motives behind job-hopping. First, the because-of motive (motive because of), which includes a mismatch in salary with workload, an unconducive work environment, and company instability. Second, the in-order motive (motive purpose) includes the search for work-life balance, career development, and exploration of new experiences. Furthermore, job-hopping is interpreted by Stickearn startup employees as an effort to find work values that align with personal expectations, as well as a means of building self-identity as young professionals who are free, recognized, and have a clear career path. This study concludes that job-hopping is not only understood as a form of disloyalty to the company, but also as an adaptive strategy for the younger generation to achieve life balance, broaden experiences, and maintain identity consistency in a dynamic workplace.
