Abstract

The purpose of this reseach was to observe antioxidant and antibacterial activity as well as the content of bioactive compounds of humped bladderwords extract (Utricularia gibba). This research was conducted from September until October 2014 in Fisheries Technology Laboratory, Laboratory of Agricultural Technology and the Laboratory of Chemistry, University of Sriwijaya Indralaya. The research was an experimental laboratory to prove of antioxidant and antibacterial activity as well as knowing their of humped bladderwords extract bioactive compounds. The extraction method was carried out using maceration extraction with methanol solvent. The observed parameters were extraction yields analysis, phytochemical analysis (phenols and tannins) using thin layer chromatography and spectrophotometry, analysis of antioxidant activity using DPPH method and analysis of antibacterial activity using paper disc method. The results showed extract yield analysis produces a value of 3.59%. Analysis of phytochemicals showed phenol and tannin content was 36.81 ppm and 62.41 ppm. Analysis of antioxidants resulted percent inhibition ranged between 28.85% - 53.89% and IC50 values 179.02 ppm. Analysis of antibacterial produce methanol extracts inhibited the growth of B. subtilis and V. cholerae, but there are no inhibition effect on in L. monocytogenes .
