Abstract
Background: Orbitocranial meningioma is a type of meningioma consisting of orbital meningioma and intracranial meningioma. Referring to epidemiology, the incidence of meningioma is higher in women and increases with age. Additional factors which exacerbate the risk of orbitocranial meningioma are endogenous and exogenous hormones. One example of exogenous hormones is hormonal contraception. Teherefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between the use of hormonal contraception and orbitocranial meningioma incidence in patients with neoplasm meningen in RSUP dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 2013-2017. Methods: This study was an observational analytic study pertaining to a cross sectional study using a population of meninges neoplasms. From 220 patients of neoplasm meningen, a simple random sampling technique was accomplished obtaining the result of 65 samples whom comply the inclusion criteria along with whom do not comply. Result: Regarding to the 49 respondents, 32 respondents (49,2%) used injection type of hormonal contraception. 23 respondents (75,3%) acknowledged to use hormonal contraception for ≥10 years. With referrence to the distribution of histopathological differentiation degree, 23 respondents (35,1%) were categorized as meningioma grade I. Along with these lines, it raised a significant relationship between the use of contraceptive types and the incidence of orbitocranial meningioma with results p=0,001 (p<α). Based on the type of hormonal contraception used, it was found that there was no significant correlation between the type of hormonal contraception used and the incidence of orbitocranial meningioma with p=0,111 (p>α). As for the duration, there was a significant relationship with p=0.001 (p<α) in the analysis of the relationship between the duration of hormonal contraceptive use and the incidence of orbitocranial meningioma. Conclusion: Research discovered a significant relationship between the use of contraceptive type and the duration of use and incidence of orbitocranial meningioma. However, research found almost cypher significant association between the type of hormonal contraception used and the incidence of orbitokranial meningioma.
