Abstract
Coal mining activities have positive and negative impacts. The negative impacts that generally occur are environmental problems, one of which is related to water. Stripping and overburden stripping activities have the potential to form acid mine drainage. PT Baturona Adimulya produces acid mine drainage with a pH of 3.9 and an iron (Fe) of 1.93 mg / l and a manganese (Mn) of 7.09 mg / l. The acid mine water content can cause environmental problems and does not meet the Environmental Quality Standards stipulated in Governor Regulation No. 8 of 2012 so that it requires a process of mine acid water treatment. This study utilizes a filtration method in which andesite stones as a filter media for treating acid mine drainage. The study was carried out experimentally and in a laboratory scale to analyze the volume of andesite filters that are most effective for neutralizing pH, reducing levels of Fe metals, and levels of Mn metals. The test results show that andesite can neutralize pH and reduce Mn metal content while Fe metal content has increased. The most effective andesite filter volume to neutralize the pH of acid mine drainage is 9.12 x 103 m3. The most effective andesite filter volume to reduce Mn metal content is 14.59 x 103 m3. Fe metal levels do not require andesite filtration processes because Fe levels have met the maximum requirements for Fe content in liquid waste from mining activities regulated in Governor Regulation No. 8/2012. Key words: Mine acid water, Iron (Fe) content, Manganese content (Mn), Andesite filter volume
