Abstract
The ohjcctives af this study were to find nam: (1) whcther or not Uus Was any sispifwaun improvement in rcading flvenuv of Uhe seventh gradc students re SMPN 1Y Palembang after they were tuueht using guided oral rcading sirulery und (2) whether ar nat there was « sienificant difference in rcading flucncy between the sradents whn weie taught by using guided oral reeding swrateny sud that Of thosc who wure nut. Tie gampic of this study wus 70 sevewih grade saudcnts of SMP Negeri 19 Palembang, which were divided inte control group and experi:mentsl yup. and! cash group had 35 student3. To calicet the data, such group was assignod prccct and pusuce. Tle data analyscs used paired sample t test and indcpcndent sample 1 test in SPSS 21. Thc result Irom independent sample € test showed that the mean difference hetucen pustrest of cxpcrimcntat group and cumi yroup was 2.746 at thc significanve level of p 0.05 with t obtained? table (5.709.905), since 1 ubtutned was higher dhan € tablc. there was siznilicame differcncc in reading Nucry between studonts who were tauzrht by using guided oral reading stratexy and Urase who were not. The meun dillerencc from Ihe caperimental group was higher thon that of control wroup (3.100:-.457). Tlw result from pairod sample 1 test showed Ulat the n:can ditferencz in posttest and pretesi Of cxperimentaf xruup was 3.400 at thc significanve level uf pOO.OS and since t obtaimed was higher than r tahlc (14.780-1995), there was a significant improvement ia rading Hiwoncy of cxperrmentul proup. The highest improvement was axcuracY followod by sxpnession, phrasing, volume and ratc.
