Abstract

Background. Erythema Nodosum Leprosum (ENL) is leprosy complication in the form of type III hipersensitivity reaction with acute inflammation due to over-response against M. leprae. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment against leprosy reaction and identification of leprosy patient who has risk of developing complication is a stage to prevent disability that is caused by leprosy. Research was to identify and analyze association between risk factor and Erythema Nodosum Leprosum (ENL) event in leprosy patient at RSUP dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method. This is an analytical observational study with cross sectional design. Sample of study is leprosy patient medical record at RSUP dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang by January 2015- December 2017 period which meet inclusion criteria. Data was processed by univariate analysis and showed in frequency distribution table, followed by bivariate and multivariate analysis to determine most significant factor. Result. From 123 leprosy patient medical record which meet inclusion criteria, 43 patient (35%) is having ENL leprosy reaction. Most significant for developing ENL reaction is bacterial index ≥2+ (p=0,000) and duration of treatment ≤ one year (p=0,032). Conclusion. Bacterial index of ≥2+ and duration of treatment ≤ one year is the most significant factor for developing ENL, meanwhile age at diagnosis, occupation, educational status and duration of disease is not the most significant factor of developing ENL.
