Abstract
USE OF Pseudomonas knackmussii BACTERIA FOR DECOLORIZATION OF CONGO RED DYES AND TEXTILE INDUSTRY WASTEWATER The ability of Pseudomonas knackmussii bacteria in decolorization was analyzed from percent of decolorization data measured at the wavelength of Congo Red dyes which was 493 nm. The decolorization rate of Congo Red dyes by Pseudomonas knackmussii bacteria was 81.65%. Determination of the optimum conditions of the Pseudomonas knackmussii bacteria in decolorizing the Congo Red dyes is done by determining the decolorization time, dyes concentration, temperature, and pH. The percent decolorization results determine the optimum conditions of Congo Red decolorization activity by Pseudomonas knackmussii at 24 hours decolorization time is 86.38%, concentration of 80 mg/L is 84.74%, temperature 37°C is 89.6%, and pH 7 is 87.53%. Determination of the decolorization activity of textile industry wastewater by Pseudomonas knackmussii bacteria was measured at a wavelength of 508 nm and obtained decolorization rate of 87.95%. The results of TLC showed degradation in Congo Red with Rf values of 0.65 in pure Congo Red dyes and 0.6 in Congo Red dyes after decolorization. TLC results in textile industry wastewater has Rf value of 0.525 and 0.575 in textile industry wastewater after decolorization. Keywords: Pseudomonas knackmussii, decolorization, Congo Red, textile industry wastewater, optimum conditions, thin layer chromatography, UV-Vis spectrophotometer.
