Abstract

Introduction: Hyperemesis gravidarum (HEG) is a condition with persistent vomiting in pregnancy lead to homeostasis imbalance even death. Its etiology remains unknown. Several risk factors are primigravida, multiparity, women under 20 and over 35 years old, low socioeconomic status, multiple pregnancy, female offspring, and history of HEG. This study was conducted to find out the most potential risk for HEG in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang. Method: Basically this research is a cross sectional study. Then, there was a modification on case and control ratio proportion (1:2). The population is all hospitalized women in Obstetrics and Gynecology Department Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang from 2011 to 2013 that are recorded in medical records (99). By using consecutive sampling method, 33 subjects was selected as case group and 66 subjects as control. Results: On case group, 6 high-risk age pregnant and 27 low-risk age pregnant women, 15 high education and 18 low education women, 6 high-income and 27 low-income women, 13 primigravida and 20 multigravida women, 25 primiparous and 8 multiparous women were found. Analysis by logistic regression method shows that economic status is highly related (p=0,003) and education level is related (p=0,039) to the incidence of HEG. The probability of suffering HEG is 30,4%. Conclusion: The most related risk of HEG on hospitalized pregnant women at Obstetrics and Gynecology Department Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang is economic status followed by education level. Meanwhile, age, gravida, and parity are not related to the incidence of HEG.
