Abstract

Excision wounds are vulnerable of contamination to be an infection from dirt and microorganisms such as bacteria. Jengkol leaves (Archidendron jiringa (Jack) I.C. Nielsen) contains several compounds such as flavonoids, tannins and steroids that can be accelerating the wound healing process. This research aims to determine the characteristics of ethanol extract jengkol leaves and determine the excision wound healing effects rate. Twenty five Sprague Dawley male rats were divided into 5 groups: control negative group was not administered anything, control positive group was treated with Tekasol®, and the treatment group I - III were treated with different concentrations of the test material (ethanol extract leaves jengkol with a dose of 250, 500, and 1000 mg / KgBB). Phytochemical screening extracts showed the compounds of flavonoids, tannins, phenolics, terpenoids and steroids. The results of extract characterization of lost on drying content was showed 7,13%, 7,68% of moisture content, 8,68% of ethanol soluble extract, of 7,62% of water soluble extract content, 11,14% of ash and 7,51% of insoluble ash content acid. Excision wounds created by biopsy punch on the dorsal side with 0.8 cm of diameters. Provision of wound healing treatments and observations made during the 16 days (H- 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, and 16). The parameters observed included healing time, wounds diameter, and percentage of recovery. Percentage of recovery were analyzed using ANOVA test to see the difference in therapeutic effects among the treatment groups. The results showed that ethanol extract jengkol leaves at a dose of 500 mg / KgBB was proven to provide the fastest wound healing effect of 100% achieved on the 13th day, and there was no significant difference in Tekasol® (p> 0,05).
