Abstract

Antioxidant are compounds who can resist free radical formation in the body. Free radical are reactive molecule can cause death cells. Natural compounds that are able to act as antioxidants are phenol, flavonoids, and alkaloid. One of the plants that are rich in this compounds is Vernonia amygdalina Del.This research is to optimize yield of rendement and total phenolic content from young african leaves (Vernonia amygdalina Del.) by investigating the effect of ethanol concentrations (30, 70, and 96% v / v) and stirring time (30, 60, and 75 min) on phenol extraction using factorial experiments. The difference in stirring time and solvent concentration with different polarity affects the acquisition of TPC and the yield. The optimum treatment of extract with 71,9% ethanol concentration and stirring time for 55,76 minutes was done by 2,2'-diphenyl1-picrilhidrazil (DPPH) antioxidant test to measure antioxidant capacity of young african leaves extract. The highest total phenolic content of 201,45 mg GAE / g and a yield of 34,21%. It also shows the antioxidant power of 440,053
