Abstract
A research on the formulation of gel extract of ethanol sembung rambat leaves (Mikania micrantha Kunth) with sodium carboxymethylcellulose (Na-CMC) base has been done. Sembung rambat leaves (Mikania micrantha Kunt) are used traditionally as open wound drugs, such as tear wounds and cuts. The content of compounds in the leaves of sembung rambat include flavonoids, tannins, and steroids are efficacious as anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. This study observed at the effect of different concentrations of extracts on 3 gel formulas, which were extract concentrations of 12.5, 25, and 50%. The gel formula was evaluated for physical quality including organoleptis, viscosity, pH, homogeneity, dispersion, washability, adhesion, extrudability, stability, irritation test, and wound healing effectiveness test. The result of the evaluation test of the preparation using one way ANOVA analysis method showed that there are significant differences between the formula results. The optimal result of organoleptic, viscosity, pH and homogeneity test showed on 25% extract formula, the optimal spreading power, washability, and extrudability test result was 12.5% extract formula, and the optimal adherence test result was extract formula 50%. The irritation test and effectiveness of wound healing were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis non parametic test method and Mann-Whitney test showed that there was no significant difference (p>0.05) between the formulas. Based on the evaluation data of the preparation, irritation test, and effectiveness of wound healing produced formula with concentration of 25% extract was the best formula.
