Abstract
Preparation of nanoparticles christmas palm seeds (Adonidia merrillii (Becc.) Becc.) of ethanolic extract aims to increase antibacterial activity intended to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli more effective. Preparation of c hristmas palm seeds e thanolic extract in the form of nanoparticles consisted of PLGA as polimer and PVA as stabilizer using emulsion solvent evaporation method. There were three formulas (F) which were evaluated in this study based on the differences amount of extract, 0.5% for F1, 1% for F2, and 2% for F3. All three formulas consecutively generate entrapment e fficiency percentage (%EE) of 66.058 ± 0.681%, 67.317 ± 1.177%, and 71.358 ± 1.637%. The third formula produced the highest EE percentage so that the third formula was the optimum formula. The result of nanoparticles characterization such as average diamet er, particles distribution (Poly Dispersity Index/PDI), and potential zeta of optimum formula using particle size analyzer (PSA) were 359.4935 nm; 0.016; and 12.5 mV respectively. Antibacterial activity assay of optimum formula carried out using agar diff usion with paper discs. The results showed that nanoparticles ethanolic extract of c hristmas palm seed 2% posses antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with inhibition zone value 2.076 ± 0.083 mm (low inhibition zone) and 3.11 ± 0.107 mm (moderate inhibition zone) respectively.
