Abstract
Tuberculosis or TBC is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Occupancy density that does not meet the requirements can be a risk factor for pulmonary TB. The purpose of this research was to determine whether there was a relationship between occupancy density and the incidence of pulmonary TB in the working area of health center. Karya Jaya Palembang Health Center is one of the puskesmas whose working area contributes to pulmonary TB patients of 56 cases over the past 3 years. This research is an observational study with a case control approach and is retrospective. The number of samples in this study were 41 cases and 82 controls (comparison 1: 2). The results of this research indicate that the main independent variable is that residential density significantly affects the incidence of pulmonary TB after being controlled by variables of age, nutritional status (BMI), ventilation area, and lighting (confounding). The variables that are considered confounding are gender, education, employment, smoking habits, temperature and humidity. Suggestions for research so that people pay attention to the dangers of smoking and often open windows in the morning so that air can enter the house. Karya Jaya Palembang Health Center need to hold counseling activities on the importance of healthy lifestyles such as quitting smoking, opening windows every morning, regulating the diet so that nutritional status is good, and can provide education about healthy homes to the community.
