Abstract

The purpose of this research were to: 1) Comparing the behavior of cattle livestock business people with Good Farming Practices,2) To know how much profit of beef cattle business in Tanjung Pering Village, North Indralaya Subdistrict of Ogan Ilir Regency, 3) Determine the strategy of developing cattle livestock business in Tanjung Pering Village North Indralaya Sub-district Ogan Ilir Regency. This research was conducted in Tanjung Pering Village, North Indralaya Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir Regency. Implementation of research and data collection in field was conducted in April 2017. Determination of research location done purposively (purposive). The method that used is survey method and direct observation to the field. The sampling method used in this study is a balanced randomized proportional method (Proporsionate Stratified Random Sampling). The results showed that the business of beef cattle in Tanjung Pering Village, whether small or large scale not yet in accordance with Good Farming Practices. The result of analysis on small scale cattle farming business obtained Good Farming Practices value of 69.51 with criteria less appropriate while in large scale beef cattle business obtained value of Good Farming Practices equal to 70.60 with the same criteria that is less appropriate. The fixed cost used by farmers in Tanjung Pering Village is the cost of shrinkage of cages, hoes, lorries, and hoes while variable costs are used only labor costs. Based on the analysis, it is found that small-scale cattle breeding business issued average fixed cost of Rp 1,152,222 and variable cost of Rp 6,286,111 while on a large scale it is known that the fixed cost is 1,246,833 and the variable cost is Rp 11,315. Based on the profit analysis, it is found that the business of beef cattle in Tanjung Pering Village, whether small or large scale, gives advantages. The profit gained on small scale cattle breeding business is Rp 5,819,091 and profit on large scale beef cattle business is Rp 16,967,814. In addition, based on the value of R / C obtained, small and large scale cattle breeding business obtained the advantage that on a small scale obtained R / C value of 1.112 while on a large scale obtained R / C value of 1.126. Based on SWOT analysis of small-scale cattle breeding business in Tanjung Pering Village obtained a total score for internal factors of -0.458 and total score on external factor of -0.248. In the business of large scale cattle beef obtained a score on the internal factor of -0.405 and the total score on the external factor of -0.121. The results of the analysis also show that small and large scale cattle farming business is in quadrant IV. The strategy that must be done quickly by the breeders in Tanjung Pering Village is the WT (Weakness-Threats) strategy. The strategies are: 1) increase capital to develop the business, 2) demand or proposal for procurement of extension, 3) change traditional maintenance system, 4) improve livestock care, and 5) increase cooperation with the government.
