Abstract
Background: The prevalence of malocclusion in Indonesia is still high, about 83.3%. Malocclusion may have impacts on each quality of life’s dimension such as physical, psychological, and social, mainly at 11-12 years old children who were in a growth period and self-concept formation. Objective: This study aimed to compare the quality of life between children with Angle Class I Type I malocclusion and children with normal occlusion. Materials and Method: This study was an analytic descriptive study with cross sectional design and total samples were 50 children (24 boys and 26 girls) aged 11-12 years at SDN 043 Palembang. Samples were examined and divided into two groups, Angle class I type I malocclusion and normal occlusion. Quality of life was measured using an OIDP questionnaire. Data was analyzed using Chi Square with result of Pvalue=0,014 (P≤0,05). Result: The result showed that the highest percentage of good quality of life was in children with normal occlusion (40%) and the highest percentage of poor quality of life was in children with Angle class I type I malocclusion (16%). Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the quality of life children with Angle class I type I malocclusion and children with normal occlusion. The quality of life children with Angle class I type I malocclusion is lower than the quality of life children with normal occlusion.
