Abstract

The pests damage crops and cause economic losts to the farmers. Armyworm Spodoptera litura is an important pest of horticultural crops and is able to cause 85% of yield losses. The use of entomopathogenic virus as biological control agent has become alternative compenent of integrated pest control. Pathogenic virus used in this research was extracted from naturally infected nettle caterpillar Setora nitens. The virus is host specific pathogen in term of infecting only its host without causing any damage to parasitoid and predator and also is easy to apply. The research was conducted in the Laboratory of Nematology and the house of silk worm, Departement of Plant Pests and Diseases from December 2014 to March 2015. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design with 8 treatments, the temperature treatment of 35oC, the temperature treatment of 40oC, the temperature treatment of 45oC, the temperature treatment of 50oC, the temperature treatment of 55oC, the temperature treatment of 60oC, the temperature treatment of 65oC, the temperature treatment of 70oC and 4 replications. The results showed that the highest mortality of S. litura larvae was observed in the temperature treatment of 35oC. infected worm were softened with blackish brown color, slow movement and less feeding appetite, compared to healthy worms.
