Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) analyze the farmer’s perception of organic rice farming in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, 2) analyze the consumer’s perception of organic rise in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, 3)analyze the potential of organic rice farming development in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, 4)analyze the strategy for the development of organic rice farming in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. The research was conducted on March 2015 until April 2015 at Sumber Suko village Belitang District Ogan Komering Ulu regency. Method of research that used was survey method. The sampling method for the farmer of this research was cencus, from 32 farmers who did organic rise farming while consumer’s samples of this research was taken by Snawball Sampling method as many as 20 samples of organic rise who consumed organic rice from Sumber Suko village. The data used in this study was primary data and secondary data. Primary data were obtained from interview and observation directly from farmer and consumers, while secondary data were obtained from literarature study, and other resources that related to this research such as Badan Pusat Statistik Sumatera Selatan and Dinas Pertanian OKU Timur. The result of this study shows that farmer’s perception of organic rice farming is in the middle criteria with score of 64,93. This perception ncludes seven indicators, namely (1cultivation,2)cost, 3)production, 4)market oppurtunity, 5)value, 6)availability of capital, 7)performance of agriculture extension officer (PPL). The consumer’s perception of organic rice is in the middle criteria which includes five indicators namely, 1)quality, 2)the source of information, 3)the knowledge of healthy, 4)the safety of consumed 5)the price. The potential of the development of organic rice farming in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency that was the land resources, the labor, the market oppurtunities, and goverment policy were available. Based on the SWOT analysis consist of SO strategy, ST strategy, WO strategy, and WT strategy obtained some strategy that used to develop organic rice farming in OKU Timur Regency. The strategy included: 1. SO strategy are develop oranic rice with optimalization existing farm equipment, develop the market of organic rise and healthy rise, increasproduction and productivity of the land, collaborat with semi organic farmers to do organic farming. 2. ST strategy are make irrigation channels for minimize damage from weather changes, expansion of land in cooperation with the consumer for guarantee the supply, and maintain the trust of market. 3. WO strategy are improve the perception of farmer with guidance on organic rice farming, give incentives for farmer whose doing organic rice farming for the first time, develop product with increasing expertise in organic rice cultivation through the good cooperation with the Department of Agricultur and agriculture concultant, integrate the development of agriculture and animal husbandry. 4. WT srategy are involves the entire parties concerned in particular goverment, and optimalization organic rice farming practice.
