Abstract
Sodium phenytoin, a form of salt from phenytoin, is one of the first-line antiepileptic drug that is widely used through activation of Sodium-Potassium ATP-ase, resulting in inactivation of the Na channel and inhibited depolarization. Intranasal preparations of phenytoin are formulated to increase the effectiveness of epilepsy treatment with brain targets made in the form of liposome with soya lesitin, cholesterol and chloroform observed for organoleptic response, percent EE, pH, stability level and viscosity. The response of the optimum formula was EE percent 95,65833%, pH 7,556667, stability levels 95,60833% and viscosity 1,13809. The optimum formula produces particle size of 522,4 nm with PDI values of 0.368 and potential zeta of -58 mV. Percent diffused by phenytoin nanoparticles was 54,85694% compared to pure phenytoin by 25,13806%. Evaluation results indicate that phenytoin have good characteristics as intranasal preparations.
