Abstract

Corn is an economic oportunity which supported by developing food and feed industries. One variety of corn that mostly used was the sweet corn (zea mays spp. mays). In developed countries in America or Europe, sweet corn had been using on various forms of staple foods like canned foods, frozen foods, smoked foods or creamilized. This research of drying of the sweet corn on oval form had purpose to learn how some kinds of collectors affected to the sunlight tool to the process of the sweet corn. This research had been doing in Biosystem Laboratory of Agriculture Enginnering, Agriculture Faculty, Universitas Sriwijaya Indralaya. On a period of times between February to December 2015. This research was using descriptive method with data on a form of tabulations and graphics with 5 treatments. The sweet corn that had been used was the oval form corn of bisi sweet 2 hybrid and combined with two collectors for the drying process, which were currugated surface collector and black painted coral collector. The parameters of research were including water containment, the steamed water, velocity of drying, the temperature of the drying, and the energy needs. The result of this research was showing that the drying process of this oval sweet corn on oval form could had been affected by the duration of sun lighting, temperature, velocity of the wind, and the collector that used in the process. Drying process of sweet corn on oval form that useing collector was more effective and could reduce the water contained of the speciment until 17%.
