Abstract

Analysis of noise and mechanical vibration was conducted using chopper and pin mill machine for oil palm midrib. The purpose of this study was to determine the intensity of the noise and mechanical vibration generated by chopper and pin mill machine for oil palm midrib. This study was conducted on February to June 2017 at Laboratory Machinery and Agricultural Workshop, Agricultural Technology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. This study was done by using the descriptive method. The noise was measured by using the grid method and sound level meter. Vibration was measured at some points in chopper and pin mill machine for oil palm midrib using a vibration meter. The observed parameters were the noise and vibration. The intensity was described in mapping using “Software Surfer 11“, which generates the contour of noise. The measured vibration data was described in form of graphs. Based on the results at chopper and pin mill machine for oil palm midrib, the highest intensity of noise was at operator position on the image contour of noise 86 dB with the motor rotation speed of 1400 rpm and height of 140 cm, whereas the lowest noise intensity 77.6 dB with the motor rotation speed of 1000 rpm and height of 160 cm. Based on the results, highest level of vibration was found at the chopper machine hopper of 10 m/s2 and lowest level of vibration was found at the pin mill machine output of 3.3 m/s2.
