Abstract
Indonesia is one of the zones with the highest potential for earthquake in the world because located in the area of interaction of four tectonic plate such as eurasia plate, indo-australia plate, philippine plate and pasific plate. To anticipated the potensial of seismic hazard that often result in damage to structure building by predicting the level of futher damage caused by earthquake, so the seismic guidelines regarding performance structure with resistant earthquake mode is needed to design or to evaluated the peformance of building structure. One of the method used to predict performance structure is nonlinear pushover analysis, a structure design of earthquake resistant mode with performance based design. Student dormitory in sumatera of institute technology included in existing building type that will be evaluated using nonlinear pushover analysis with capacity spectrum method according to atc-40. The result of study found that the level of performance structure included in immediate occupancy category, means the building is safe when an earthquake occurs and and dont have to experience significant damage and the building can be used immediately. The diplacement of x axis at performance point is 45,486 mm, while the displacement of y axis is 14,539 mm. Spread of plasticity at x axis and y axis starting with yielding of the beam and following by yielding of the column. This is compatible by frame system of sway special with strong column weak beam mechanism.
