Abstract
Storage pest problem is one of the obstacles often faced. Therefore, a research was conducted to investigate the effects of zingiberaceous plant extracts on the growth and egg hatchment inhibition of mung bean beetle, Callasobruchuschinensis (L.) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae). The effect on adult life was determined by adult mortality, and the effect on eggs was determined by hatching viability of the eggs. The experiment was conducted in the labolatory of Entomologi, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, from September 2016 to Juny 2017. The experiment was arranged in completely randomized design with 6 treatments and 5 replications. Plastic jar contained 15 adults and 100 eggs of mung bean beetle was used in each treatment unit. The results showed that the extracts of Zingiberaceous plants had no significant effect on adult mortality and had no capacity to inhibit their eggs to hatch.The highest adult mortality was 29.33% found in the treatment of the extract of aromatic ginger zingiberaceous plants and lowest mortality on treatment controls 8 hours after application until 128 hours after application was 0.74%.
