Abstract

The objective of the study was to test the performance of a two-cylinder biomass hearth using various biomass sources. The study was conducted in Agricultural Engineering Workshop. Department of Agriculture Technology, Faculty of Agriculturel, University of Sriwijaya, Inderalaya, South Sumatra, from February to November 2014. The research used a factorial randomized block design (RAKF) with two treatment factors which are biomass waste, consist of three levels which are rice husk, Teak wood chips and Teak wood dust, and the weight of fuel consist of three levels which are 1.3 kg, 0.975 kg and 0.650 kg. The parameters in this study were the working time of operation (hours), fuel consumption rate (kg / h), the specific gasification rate (kg / m2.hour), combustion efficiency (%) and the percentage of ash produced (%). The results showed an average operating time of combustion and highest efficiency of ash presented in the rice husk material with 1.3 kg which are 0.66 hours and 44%. The average rate of fuel consumption and highest specific gasification rate were in the wood chips with 0.650 kg which are 3.92 kg / h and 55.51 kg / m2/hour. The average highest combustion efficiency was the rice husk material with 0.650 kg which is 5.94%.
